Dear parishioners of Nativity of Our Lord:
I have been deeply touched by the many parishioners who continue to give financially during these unprecedented times. COVID-19 may have changed the way we do church, but it certainly hasn't changed God's mission. Your regular financial giving allows us to continue our mission to serve God and the people of Nativity of Our Lord.
The pandemic shines a light on how we have done church and it challenges us to rethink how we carry out our mission both now and in the future. But truly our mission must stay the same. The great commandment to love God and neighbor, and our need to gather in worship has more relevance than ever during this time of anxiety, fear and mistrust. The news our media presents to us is full of all the bad things that plagues this world. And yet, our faith provides the answer! Our faith shows us what love looks like, sounds like, feels like, and acts like. God reveals his love in the person of his Son, Jesus Christ. The love we seek is found in Jesus and all who faithfully follow him – we who gather together in our parish community in worship and service.
The mission of our parish community hasn't changed during the pandemic, but our methods for funding the mission must change. Parishioners are our parish's only source of revenue. Pre-pandemic, over 95% of our collection would be received by passing the basket during the offertory collection in the middle of Sunday mass. Obviously, this didn’t work very well when the church was locked down from this past March to mid-June or as is right now, or when we were only able to operate with reduced numbers from mid-June to November 23rd.
To ensure a consistent revenue stream so that we are able to continue to serve you as well maintain our parish church, we are asking that you consider switching to the online “Donate Now” system in which you use your credit card, or else to the Pre-Authorized Giving Programme of in which a monthly amount determined by you is withdrawn on the 20th day of each month. Please see the two methods next to this note.
May God continue to bless you and your families.
With gratitude, peace and prayers,
Fr. Michael Machacek,
Pastor, Nativity of Our Lord Parish.
